Reading a page, saving your progress and posting a comment use different information. Here is what those features involve.
What data may be processed
You can read the guides without posting a comment or creating a reader profile.
Basic technical logs
The hosting and security systems may record an IP address, browser type, requested page, and visit time to deliver the site and prevent abuse.
Browser storage and sign-in
The first-week checklist, starter-plan progress and saved-article choices use storage in your browser. Clearing that site data removes those local choices. WordPress also uses cookies for signed-in sessions; language preferences may be stored by the language service.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to measure page views, reading time, scrolling, internal and outbound link clicks, video engagement and downloads. We also count use of tools, tabs, sharing controls and language switching, plus search submissions and newsletter form activity. These counts do not include what you type or which answers you choose. It also receives technical information needed to process these visits. We use this to understand which articles readers use and improve the website. You can turn off Analytics for this browser using the control at the bottom of this page. This does not affect your access to the website.
We do not send form answers, site-search terms, reader account IDs or contact details to Analytics. Advertising personalization and Google signals are off. Search and account pages are excluded from measurement. Google processes Analytics data on its infrastructure, which may be outside Taiwan. See how Google uses information from websites.
Google uses _ga and _ga_* cookies to distinguish browsers and visits; their default lifetime is two years, subject to shorter browser limits. User and event data retention is set to 14 months without extending the user-data period on each visit; aggregate reports can remain longer.
Turning Analytics off stops future Analytics collection and removes these Analytics cookies from this browser. Your opt-out is stored in the __Host-ktw_analytics_off cookie for 180 days. It does not erase information already sent. Clearing site cookies also clears this opt-out preference. For privacy questions, contact info@kefir.tw.
Reader profiles and comments
If you create a reader profile, WordPress stores the account details you provide. Your display name, biography, uploaded picture and published comments can be visible to other readers. When automatic comment translation is enabled, comment text may be sent to OpenAI for translation, and translated text is stored on the site. Avoid posting medical records, contact details or other information you do not want made public.
Videos and external links
Research links and videos can take you to other services. Opening a YouTube video connects you to YouTube, whose privacy practices apply there. Those services may receive technical information such as your IP address and browser details.
Email subscriptions
The newsletter subscription form asks for your email address so we can send you the newsletter. Use the unsubscribe option in any newsletter to stop receiving it.
